Ficlet for jurisimmortalis

It may have been vastly out of character for the feral, but for once in his life, Victor was actually sitting down at the large table in the middle of the loft he shared with Nat, pen in one hand, a crumpled piece of paper in the other. He frowned as he read over the words for what felt like the fiftieth time before growling, baring his fangs, scrunching the note into a ball and tossing it over his shoulder.

"...in sickness an' in health? Nah... that don't sound right."

Sighing, he picked up another piece of paper and began to write again. Many people made the mistake of thinking Victor was an illiterate idiot, but that was far from the truth; he could read and write, but he tended to prefer the more physical pleasures which life had to give. Right now, though, he was beginning to regret even being able to write at all.

"...to honor an' obey? Fuck no!"

He laughed as he crossed a thick black line through that phrase. He couldn't imagine Nat obeying anyone. His brow furrowed as he threw that scrap away too, adding to the small pile which was now growing on the floor.

"...in the presence of God... hmm..."

Another half-hour of scribbling - and several beers later - and he finally had something which he felt happy with, at least for now. Pushing back his chair he threw the much-chewed pen down onto the table and headed towards the fridge to seek out a reward for his efforts. Had anyone tried reading the scrawl which he'd left on the one remaining bit of notepaper, it would have read something like this:

"I, Victor Creed, take you, Wildcat Nat Bruenner, to be my wife, my life-mate, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God our family and friends I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow, even when we've run out of beer. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, especially those which involve victory in a fight, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live."
